Imge Balloon is a desktop application that turns PDF technical drawings into inspection plans through ballooning. Built for quality teams in defense, aerospace and precision manufacturing, it numbers every dimension on the drawing, converts it into a measurement or approval question, and runs the entire inspection workflow — plan, measurement entry, evaluation, reporting — on a single screen.
Tolerance intelligence is built in: ISO 286 fit codes such as Ø30 H7 are automatically resolved to real limits (+0.021/0), the ISO 2768 general tolerance class (f/m/c/v) from the title block is applied to untoleranced dimensions, and GD&T feature control frames (ASME Y14.5 / ISO 1101) are parsed into their components. AI-assisted OCR detects dimensions and tolerances automatically — the vision model runs entirely on-premise, so technical drawings never leave the building.
On the measurement side, each balloon accepts as many values as the sample size; conformance is evaluated live, and Cp/Cpk process capability analysis with an X-bar control chart is one button away. Results export to an AS9102 Form 3 style FAI report plus Excel, CSV, HTML, SVG, DXF and JSON, while the KAYISI QDMS integration pushes control plans and inspection results straight into the quality system.

OCR-Assisted Auto-Ballooning
An on-premise vision AI model detects dimensions and tolerances on the drawing automatically; large drawings are tiled to preserve small text. A protected-area filter excludes regions such as the title block. For a single region, hold X and select directly on the drawing.
Smart Balloon Placement
Balloons are placed automatically near their source dimension but in empty (low-ink-density) areas of the drawing, avoiding collisions with existing balloons. Numbers never sit on top of text; a leader line connects back to the source.
ISO 286 Fit Code Resolution
Fit codes such as Ø30 H7 are converted to real deviation limits (+0.021 / 0) automatically. Published standard tables for IT grades 5–13 and nominal sizes up to 500 mm are embedded in the software; every resolved tolerance is flagged with its traceable source.
ISO 2768 General Tolerance Engine
Select the ISO 2768-1 class (f/m/c/v) from the title block, and the linear, broken-edge and angular tables are applied to untoleranced dimensions automatically. A US-style decimal-place tolerance mode is also available; every row can be overridden manually.
GD&T Symbol Parsing
14 geometric characteristic types are recognized, including position, perpendicularity, parallelism, flatness, profile and runout (ASME Y14.5 / ISO 1101). Both Unicode symbols and ASCII equivalents from OCR output are parsed into tolerance value, MMC/LMC modifiers and datum references.
Multi-Sample Measurement Entry
Each balloon accepts as many measured values as the sample size; the pass/fail badge updates live along with a count, minimum, maximum and mean summary. If even a single sample is out of tolerance, the characteristic is flagged as nonconforming.
SPC / Cp-Cpk Capability Analysis
Entered samples feed a Cp/Cpk process capability analysis and X-bar control chart with one button. Control limits, out-of-control point detection and Western Electric rules rate process health against aerospace/automotive thresholds (Cp ≥ 1.33 / 1.67 / 2.0).
AS9102 FAI & Multi-Format Reporting
The characteristic list exports to Excel in AS9102 Form 3 layout (Characteristic Accountability field set), with balloon number, sheet reference, criticality, requirement and tolerance-source traceability filled in automatically. CSV, print-ready HTML, SVG, DXF and JSON outputs are also generated.

Revision-Proof Project File
Balloons are stored in a .balloon.json project as a layer separate from the PDF. When the drawing revision changes, balloons are preserved; revision swap with a red diff view quickly isolates changed dimensions.
Your Data Never Leaves the Building
AI OCR runs entirely on an on-premise server; technical drawings are never sent to an external service. Access keys are stored encrypted by the operating system, and session credentials live in Windows Credential Manager.
Measurement and Approval Question Types
Measurement balloons with nominal + tolerance for numeric characteristics; diamond-shaped approval balloons with Pass/Fail answers for visual and functional checks. Each characteristic carries its measuring instrument, criticality and sample size.
